May is ALWAYS insane! First CU Prep’s Taiko concert ‘Rhythmic Force’ was a great success. It was originally supposed to be held out in the Amphitheatre, but the rain came out of nowhere and luckily with the fast action of everyone ( my administration is amazing ), we were able to play inside. Even with the bad weather we had a great turn out! Our concert had a light Star Wars theme because it was held on the 4th. A huge congratulations to the students whose hard work shown on stage! ❤️
To put a damper on the evening of the concert, after all the good feels, my car would not start and finally had to be towed away. After many issues with the car and mechanics, we decided it was time for a new car. Enter Artemis, my new car! I love it. I was able to finally after a month, get my jeep fixed enough not to get rid of it.
This month we had 6 school assemblies and I finished most of my residencies. The residency classes were so sweet and generous! Beautiful flowers and sweet handmade cards and messages from the little ones. I am always sad when it’s time to be done.
I purchased a used hiradaiko 2尺 from Asano Taiko and needed to have a stand made. I found a woodworker/arborist through a taiko student. Look at the lovely stand! The lines are beautiful. It is made out of cherrywood and is light. I am very pleased with the design. THANK YOU KEVIN!
And finally, graduation. This year I only had 1 senior Taiko student. ( last year I had too many to count ). The group plays for both the Senior and Jr. High graduation. This year was special because we are becoming a Middle College. I will no longer teach Jr. High and we will be moving to a new campus and changing names. Mountainside Middle College High School. In the middle college format, students are able to dual enroll in college classes and graduate with an associates. So, it was a sad goodbye to our current room. Which means everything will need to be moved!
I have so many talented students. At the end of the year I am so excited to receive the handmade gifts that some of the students spend time making me. THANK YOU!!! ❤️
Lots of pictures incoming!
